Nutrition

Edging God Out (your ego) of your daily life kills your soul, just as eating empty calories kills your metabolism. Proper nutrition is vital in developing a healthy and fit physique. I prefer not to use the term DIET because by definition it is a temporary eating plan that is not sustainable. Hence the first three letters in diet spell DIE (death). It is important to have a sustainable nutritional eating plan that does not deviate much from itself all year round. God made our bodies and provided food for our bodies to function optimally so there is no reason to deviate too far from God's will. Revelation 3:20 essentially tells us, God wants to eat with you. From the moment you answered God's knock and invited Him into your heart, take a moment to reflect on what you have been serving Him. Have you been serving Him food fit for the King of Kings, or have you slowly been poisoning Him with highly processed inflammatory foods?  Unhealthy eating can have a negative effect on every aspect of your appearance, from your head to your toes. More importantly, unhealthy eating can have detrimental effects on the inside of your body that can cause chronic inflammation and illnesses, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, Fatty Liver, breathing troubles, Gout and heart disease. This is why proper foods and fluid are needed to deliver adequate nutrition and energy to support growth and development and to maintain cells, tissues and organs. The Pig Iron Gym personalized nutritional program is designed to simultaneously speed up your metabolism and reduce your body fat, while improving your overall health.

The Pig Iron Gym program will correct the actual problem that has led you to seek help.

It can take approximately three to six weeks for the body to adapt to the nutritional program. Therefore, in order to accelerate your metabolism, adjustments must be made to the program every six weeks. This means your intake of carbohydrates, proteins and fats will be adjusted accordingly. Your body fat will also be monitored every six weeks. To achieve optimal results, you will eat only the listed foods during the beginning stages of the program. You will eat a variety of foods from every food group to ensure you are getting all the essential vitamins and minerals for optimal health.

If you commit to exactly what is recommended on the program, you will do well.

Weight Training

Pig Iron Gym will assist you in getting fitter, stronger and healthier. Weight training has numerous benefits. The stronger you are in the gym, the easier your daily activities become. Muscle mass decreases with age and from living a sedentary life. Without resistance training to rebuild the atrophied muscle, your metabolism slows causing the accumulation of fat. Anarobic training stimulates muscle growth as well as increasing bone density. Weight training also leads to a stronger heart, healthy blood sugar levels and improved mental health. Weight training builds muscle and bigger muscles equates to an increase of calories you burn daily, even while at rest. The most efficient way to  grow muscle in the gym is to achieve failure with every exercise. Although aerobic activity is great for burning calories during the exercise, it's most beneficial for cardiovascular health. A good analogy to burning fat is: Aerobic activity is like living "paycheck to paycheck..." The more calories you consume, the more aerobic exercise you must engage in to burn off those calories. Hypertrophy training is like money earning interest in the bank... The more muscle you build, the more calories your body will burn while at rest. Let's also not forget that we only have one opportunity to make a first impression and for the most part, that first impression is visual. Before a word is uttered, your physical appearance is making a first impression. Building an aesthetically pleasing physique reveals confidence, will power, work ethic and command presence. Weight training is suitable for everyone at any fitness level. Pig Iron Gym is an excellent training program that incorporates vintage free-weights and classic machines that will help make all your health and fitness goals obtainable. Recovery

Few people realize sleep is one of the pillars of balanced health. A lack of sleep is counter productive to muscle gain and fat loss. Getting an appropriate amount of sleep (6 to 9 Hrs.) will help boost testosterone levels and strengthen your immune system. Proper sleep is crucial for total physical and mental wellness. REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is the stage of sleep where your brain recovers. Non-REM sleep is the stage of sleep responsible for physical recovery, such as muscle growth. A lack of adequate sleep can be detrimental to your recovery.
But there is more to recovery than just a good night sleep.

Chiropractic care can improve your overall wellness, prevent injury, and keep you feeling great. Chiropractics can help you retain and improve your range of motion, which can be beneficial in preventing many injuries.

Another form of recovery maintenance is the release of mood elevating hormones such as, endorphins, serotonin and dopamine through massage to help increase relaxation and recovery.

A pre-workout massage loosens, warms and prepares the muscles for an intense workout. It can also increase performance and help prevent injury. If you have an injury, massage can be used to aid in injury rehabilitation.

Post workout massage relieves soreness from inflamed muscles brought on by the muscles being stressed beyond  what they are accustomed to. Everyone can benefit from massage to relieve routine soreness and stiffness. The higher the intensity of your workout, the more your muscles will need regimented massage. Regular massage will expedite your recovery, allowing your muscles to grow more efficiently.

Some massage modalities increase blood circulation while releasing muscle tension. Massage also stimulates nerves near the surface of the skin and tends to be very relaxing. Other modalities employ deep, hard compression to attack specific trouble spots and tends to be more of a painful process but yields great results. The increased circulation from massage will allow greater oxygen and nutrients to flow to the muscles in need, speeding up the recovery process.  If you are suffering from conditions such as depression, stress, sciatica, arthritis, circulatory problems, headaches or stomach cramps that prevent you from getting to the gym, massage therapy can assist in the recovery of those conditions. Massage therapy combined with routine chiropractic maintenance is also a valid treatment of chronic neck pain, back problems, impaired mobility and will help keep you in excellent shape.

Relaxation and stress relief are important in staying mentally and physically healthy. Do things on your off day that you find relaxing, like go to the mountains, read a book, play a musical instrument, go for a hike in the woods, or go to the movies. Take up other sports where you don't need to rely on other people, like archery, skeet shooting, target shooting, skiing, hiking, cycling or even disc golf. These are all excellent forms of exercise and relaxion, depending on your personality.

Faithfully Fit

A person cannot have balance in their life with just a healthy body and an intelligent mind. Faith is an often-overlooked necessity to a peaceful, purposeful life, but it must begin internally. This can only be accomplished by building yourself up spiritually.  The ideal place to acquire the building blocks of faith is, the church. Just as unused muscles will atrophy, faith that is not exercised will do the same.  Worrying about your weight, your health, or your fitness won’t benefit you. Be productive, DO THE WORK and God will see you through. Matthew 6:27

The Bible says, “Man will earn his bread by the sweat of his brow” (Genesis 3:19). But with society becoming more and more sedentary due to the rapid advancements in technology, online shopping, unnecessary tyrannical government lockdowns and restrictions, people don’t sweat like they used too. That is in part why Pig Iron Gym was established. We have created a program to do what God designed our bodies to do... sweat, exercise, move and grow to our individual physical potential. God made us in His likeness and image. Every time we hit the gym and break a sweat, we emulate God. 1 Corinthians 6:19 states, “The body is the temple of the Lord.” I don’t know about you, but I refuse to allow my Lord and Savior to live in a neglected, rundown shanty of a body. Based on that mindset, working out should be spiritual as much as it is mental and physical. Everything we do, even working out should primarily be for the glory of God. So, every workout should be nothing more or less than the best you got, because being physically fit and healthy is a biblical mandate. "...Our bodies were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies" (1 Corinthians 6:13).

2 Corinthians 13:5  tells us to, “Examine yourselves to see if you are in the faith.” We know that being physically fit is a biblical mandate and our physical fitness is of value on earth. Our spiritual fitness is of eternal value and by far outweighs our physical fitness. This is why we get at least an annual physical checkup and see the dentist at least twice a year. These are average minimum standards we have for ourselves. With that being said and our spiritual fitness far outweighing our physical fitness, we should be meeting a standard that reflects that value. So ask yourself, are you attending church weekly, are you active in Bible study groups? Are you dedicating time each day to reading God’s word? Are your daily actions a reflection of Christ-like actions?

The human body is the most beautiful thing God ever created. Willfully neglecting the body that carries the soul is not so much an issue of being too busy or too lazy, it’s an issue of the heart. We need to resist the secular onslaught from alcohol, tobacco, drugs, junk food and all the immoral temptations that are turning young bodies (temples) into rectories of sin. Young ladies around the world are deceived into believing, to use the parlance of our times, “my body, my choice,” yet they lack the courage to ask themselves if their fecundity is a hindrance or a blessing? The reality is “my body” is on loan and “my choice” needs approval from the owner (God).

Our living physical body is connected to our soul. When we train in the gym for the glory of God, we strengthen our body, our soul and our relationship with Jesus (Galatians 5:22).  Someone who is put in charge of something that is not theirs, is commonly referred to as a steward. I think we can all agree, we need to be better stewards of the bodies we have been given. It’s time to renovate that body of yours. The first step is almost always the most difficult step, but feeding your ego with uncontrolled heavy lifting not only injures the body, but it also kills your soul by edging God out. Lighten your load by feeding your heart and soul the word of God. The following verse will remind you that any challenge can be overcome, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13). Pig Iron Gym can provide the facility, the tools and the instruction for you to GET IT DONE! So, don’t slack off in the gym. If you don’t give 100%, you're not only shortchanging yourself, you cheat God of His glory (Colossians 3:23)

Proverbs 27:17 reads: "As iron sharpens iron, so, a friend sharpens a friend." If you feel like you have lost your edge, Pig Iron Gym is the friend that can make you sharp again.
